Our Vision & Goals

The European Synthetic Biology Society’s (EUSynBioS) primary objective is to promote and consolidate the field of synthetic biology in Europe. In order to achieve this, EUSynBioS works on bringing together the varied community of European synthetic biology researchers and experts. This includes actors from academia, such as students, early career researchers and principal investigators, but also partners from industry, science communication and policy making. Through its annual symposia, networking activities and online content, EUSynBioS is successfully informing and connecting a growing number of people across Europe. Our vision is to eventually foster a network of European professionals to facilitate collaborations, job search and broader exchanges.

At EUSynBioS, we are also aware of the urgent need for a comprehensive and balanced representation of synthetic biology efforts at the European level. We work closely with associations active at the national level to approach this project in a cooperative and inclusive way. Moreover, we support the creation of new national associations in less well-represented European countries and serve as a first contact for fellow international synthetic biology associations.

Beyond its professional agenda, EUSynBioS further aims to share information related to the field of synthetic biology to a wide and general audience through its conferences, social media channels and online resources. Synthetic biology is undoubtedly a disruptive technology that will have big implications beyond laboratory routines. The active dissemination of core ideas and basic principles in synthetic biology is therefore an essential part of EUSynBioS’ tasks, and we envision a future European society that readily embraces this new research area, willing to engage with us in constructive dialogue and fruitful exchange.
